Day 13 - Rab

We woke up this morning to see that rain had set in overnight while we were docked at Zadar. Although it was still quite warm, the crew had been expecting the weather to turn so had battened everything down - not much chance of a swim today. Actually, of all the days that we could get rain, today was probably the best - this was our longest day of cruising to the next stop in Rab (6 hours) so it was a good day to stay in the cabin and read a book. By the time we got to Rab, the weather had cleared and we were able to dock for another walking tour. Although the staple for just about every day has been a walking tour, they’ve all been excellent. The guides have always been entertaining while talking us through the local history and stories that they’ve probably repeated a thousand times. The claim to fame for Rab is a type of almond cake (surprisingly called Rab cake) that was first made in the 12th century for the Pope when he visited the island. After a tour through the old city, our guide took us to an old bakery to sample some cakey goodness and then we were left to our own devices for a bit of exploring. We couldn’t help but do some shopping - I found a fetching new shirt and Barb bought a couple of dresses. We hadn’t planned on doing much shopping but we've got some luggage allowance to spare so while we’re here…. After meeting back up with Tony and Toni for a well earned drink, we located a local restaurant for a meal before heading back to the boat. Truffle pasta for me and somethifng called "small fish" for Barb (individually crumbed whitebait) Truffle pasta - the best!
