Day 15 - Rovinj
A day of buses, vans and ferries today as we left the cruise to travel through to Rovinj. It was a sad goodbye, we find that we very suited to luxury boat life! When you are not spending time cooking, cleaning, packing, unpacking, waiting for a plane, driving etc, there is so much more time to just relax. It makes a week feel like two weeks of normal holiday.
All of our repacked luggage was loaded onto a coach to head back to Opatija where we’d arranged to meet a transfer driver to take us onto Rovinj. Although the transfer was over an hour, it was a very smooth drive and definitely better than trying to navigate a train station with 68,000 other tourists. Ok, I might be exaggerating a little but getting a van to take us all the way in was well worth it.
The hotel we’re staying at is located on a small island opposite Rovinj so we needed to take a small ferry for the last leg of the journey. Check in, lunch by the sea (truffle pizza!) and then back on the ferry into Rovinj to find a laundromat - after being on the boat for seven days, the amount of clean underwear was starting to get dangerously low.
So laundry in, it was time for the normal Croatian pass time of sitting in a streetside cafe and people watching while the washing did its thing. Into the dryer and then some meandering. Such a lovely little town! The usual tiny streets and alleys, but a number of wider boulevards as well. The Venetian influence is very clear in the architecture here.
We’re on Rovinj for four nights with only one activity booked - some truffle and olive oil tasting (yes, more truffles) - so we’re expecting a very lazy time. There is apparently a storm coming, but at least we are on land rather than on the boat to see it out if it comes.
