Day 16 - An Island in the Storm

There’s not as much to write about today….we were due to spend most of the day on a truffle and oil tasting tour but the weather’s worsened overnight and getting a ferry back to Rovinj to meet the guide was a bit risky - although it did manage to dock at the island this morning, there was not much chance of us arriving on time for the tour, and getting back might have been a problem. So, we settled for a stroll around he island before heading back to he hotel to read for a bit. Although the wind was up, there was hardly any rain and it was still warm so taking a walk wasn’t a chore. Actually, the weather seemed to make the old city across on the mainland appear a bit more ominous or mysterious (I think Barb’s managed to get some good pictures of how stormy everything was with her swanky new phone). The award for most useless invention went to my attempt at uncorking a bottle of wine while we were sitting on the balcony watching the storm. The pair of bathroom scissors didn’t work nearly as well as I thought and we ended up having to push the cork into the bottle with a toothbrush, spraying Tony with wine in the process. Oh well, there was still plenty left to drink so we sat and watched the choppy sea for a bit while indulging in some day drinking. After a while, the weather seemed to have calmed a bit so Tony and Toni were keen to try for the ferry and go exploring the old town. Barb and I didn’t bring raincoats with us so we were happy to spend the day with a book, and enjoy the occasional thunder and lightning show while tucked up on our balcony. It wasn’t a bad spot to have a day off.
