Day 20 - Puglia: Barb's Day - Locorotondo, Alberobello & Ostuni

Getting started this morning was a bit difficult after indulging in so much food and wine from the seven course, all you can drink, degustation feast the previous night. But, the good news is that there’s a coffee machine in our room so after a bit of fiddling with the buttons, we were able to make an espresso which set everything right again.  Today was Barb’s choice for what we do while in Ostuni - a tour to the nearby towns of Locorotondo and Alberobello on Vespa scooters. Very Italian! As usual, our guide was extremely knowledgeable (telling us about the history of the whitewashed cone shaped trulli houses that were built in the 16th century) while also making the tour really entertaining. Annnd, zooming through the Italian countryside on Vespas made the tour extra cool - Barb was definitely in her happy place. We all got top marks from our guide for our riding, with Barb top of the class because she was also able to park up with no assistance (apparently the guide often has a very stressful time with riders of our age group who often have no experience). The weather was predicted to be rainy, but aside from a few spits every now and then it was all good, a great temperature for sightseeing. After the tour, we made a trip into the old town of Ostuni. A bit more wandering, window shopping and picture taking before finding a little restaurant with tables on the footpath where we could have a late lunch, watch the passers by and listen to Andrea Bocelli being played on the stereo. The sun came out in full and we enjoyed a very Italian way to follow our Italian Vespa tour. Heading back to our masseria, we stopped off at the supermarket to grab some supplies so we could sit outside, have a nightcap and a bit to eat - thankfully no seven course degustation dinner tonight.
