Day 26 - Amalfi Coast & Birthday Dinner

We were out on the ocean again today to view the Amalfi coast from the water. After a quick trip to the marina in one of Capri’s weird looking taxis, we all boarded a small boat which then took us out to the main straight between Capri and the mainland. Because the sea was quite choppy, Barb and I were asked to sit on the bow to keep things stable. However, this also meant that we wore all the spray coming across the front of the boat. Luckily, we’d predicted that we might need to take jackets, but unluckily we left them in the daypack down the back of the boat - by the time we docked down at Amalfi we were both completely soaked. Oh well…we’d expected a swim stop so had our togs on underneath the top layer. The sun came out on cue so by the time we’d finished wandering around Amalfi, we’d dried out and were ok to move on to the next spot (a seaside restaurant in Praiano) for lunch. Fortunately, the sea for this part of the trip wasn’t nearly as rough so although Barb and I were on the bow again, we avoided getting drenched. A lazy lunch in the sun right beside the ocean, and then it was time to get back onboard to head back up the coast. T2 joined us on the bow for a cruisy ride back on the calmer seas and we were soon being dropped back at the marina to get ready for Barb’s birthday dinner - although it’s a couple of weeks before her big day, it was the perfect opportunity to go somewhere special, so we’d booked a restaurant in Capri famous for its view of the sunset AND for having an entire room full of desserts. It even had a singer serenading everyone. It did seem a little odd to have someone singing next to you while you’re eating, but it’s Italy! Despite once again eating too much, I was determined to give the dessert room a try. Sadly the clouds meant that there was no spectacular sunset, so I had to make sure at least one of us took advantage of the other main attraction! Back to the accommodation for a night cap and off to bed - there’s something about getting a bit of sun and being near the ocean that makes you sleepy.
