Day 31 - Last Day

We woke up to a sunshine morning, it seems that the forecast was correct and the storm has rolled through. We had a lazy start then headed down ro the piazza for breakfast. A quick stop back at the apartment for ablutions, then we decided to take a walk back around the penninsula to explore some of the wee beaches. Barb and Toni are still keen to sneak in one last sea swim, but I'm skeptical as the ocean still looks pretty rough. You take your life into your hands when walking along the road so we set off around the pathway that winds through the forest above the road, linking Portofino to Santa Margherita. It's called the Walk of Kisses, maybe for all the private, romantic spots along the way? The first beach was a definite no for swimming, a tiny beach with crashing waves and a big undertow, so on we went. By the time we came to the next beach, we could also see the beach clubs at Paraggi Beach so we decided we'd have a final day splurge and treat ourselves to a fancy lunch and a spot each under our own private umbrella for the afternoon. It was actually a perfect way to close out the holiday and after a delicious lunch, Barb and Toni even managed their sea swim. I was happy to lay on a lounger with a cocktail (or two) and doze by the ocean.  Later in the afternoon Toni went in for a last swim and got stung by a jellyfish that we had no idea were a possibility in the bay. She got gooped up by the staff (no old remedy required), but it was a glitch in an otherwise excellent day. We taxied back to Portofino and bought bits on a plate to have on our balcony for dinner. They were setting up a stage in the piazza when we left this morning, so we were hopeful that we would have free seats to a cincert. Sadly it turned out to be a political press conference. Oh well, time to suck it up and get packing ready to begin our long trip home.
