Day 9 - Farewell Korcula, Hello Hvar

After a good night sleep, we had some breakfast onboard and got ready to head back into Korcula for a guided walking tour of the city. Although we’d had a wander around the the evening, the tour was definitely worthwhile - we got a really knowledgeable guide with a very dry sense of humour, and the city was quite a different place without so many people (most of the cruise ships that had been in the previous day had left). We did a bit more wandering after the tour, just to make sure we’d seen everything and then it was back onboard the ship for lunch - three courses! I think we could very easily get used to the idea of lazing around on a boat and having everything done for us…..
While we lunched the captain sailed us out of Korcula and up the coast to the island of Hvar. Another walking tour of the old city - again, well worth it (we’ve officially become those disoriented looking tourists that you see wandering around with earpieces in, trying to keep up with the guide). Onto a bus to visit a local vineyard for some wine tasting and we couldn’t help but buy a couple of bottles - we’ll just need to make sure we drink them before our next flight because our luggage weight is getting a little high……although, I’m sure it won’t be a problem! The bus took us up to what’s been called the “Spanish fort” (although, apparently it’s got nothing to do with Spain) and we could take some pictures looking over the main city. Such an amazing view! Back on the bus and then into the city for a really good meal at one of the restaurants in the square, and then onto the boat for a nightcap. Getting across all the docked boats back to our one was a bit tricky but we made it back without injury. We’re due to leave port early tomorrow morning and there should be a chance for us to go swimming in the ocean. Barb is itching to get a sea swim in after her paddle in Korcula, so hopefully it happens - there is a break in the hot weather expected with a thunderstorm predicted for tonight.
